Seaweed, orange fibre and Circ fabrics at Pyratex
Spanish textiles company Pyratex has teamed up with Circ, a US-based chemical recycler that breaks down polyester-cotton blends, for a new fabric spun in Portugal.
Pyratex was founded in 2014 to offer natural alternatives to synthetic textiles, working with textiles makers to offer agricultural waste and recycled fibres.
It was backed by incubator programmes in Germany, France and Spain, and has also collaborated with textile institutes such as Aitex and Germany’s STFI.
It has worked with suppliers in Italy to create a fabric blended with orange peel fibres, made in Biella, targeted at high-end fashion brands.
Its seaweed-based fabric imparts skin-friendly properties and is antibactierial. The company sources the seaweed from north Iceland and operates a European supply chain for all its products.
