Boost for textile-to-textile polyester

21/08/2025
Late last month Loop Industries announced the launch of Twist, a branded circular polyester resin made entirely from textile waste, marking its shift away from bottle-to-textile recycling.

The Montreal-based company has patented a depolymerisation process that breaks down polyester textile waste into DMT and MEG. Dyes, contaminants and various impurities are removed to deliver a resin that is said to be chemically identical to virgin polyester. This allows Twist recycled polyester to seamlessly reintegrate the supply chain, the company said.

First produced at Loop’s Terrebonne facility, Twist will be manufactured in a future Infinite Loop facility located in India. Through a joint venture with Ester Industries, Loop has announced that it has chosen a site for this plant in Gujarat, in a Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR). This status helps expedite permitting processes. The location has other advantages as it will give the joint-venture access to polyester textile waste feedstock, from nearby Surat, said to be India’s synthetic textile capital, a labour force skilled in petrochemicals and a deep-water seaport.
