PET recycling projects put on hold in France
Two major plans to build up the chemical recycling capacity of PET plastics and polyester in France are being reconsidered or suspended. The Suez-Loop Industries projected factory located in Saint-Avold, in the east of France, will not go forward. French regional broadcaster France 3 Grand Est reported that Suez had not exercised its option to purchase the site earmarked for the plant.
French news agency AFP learned last week that Eastman’s planned advanced recycling facility in Port-Jérôme, in the west of France, is also being reconsidered. A company representative cited changes to the EU’s packaging directive which was expected to restrict the import of recycled plastics. This, the representative said, impacts the economic viability of the projected factory.
