Musinsa, a Korean brand management company, has formed a joint venture with Chinese group Anta Sports to expand the presence of Korean labels in the Chinese market. The new firm, Musinsa China, with Musinsa controlling 60% of the shares and Anta Sports the remaining 40%, will seek to drive business both online and in physical stores.

Musinsa works with some 10,000 Korean brands. Anta Sports itself has built its success on a multibrand strategy in the performance and lifestyle sportswear sectors through its various acquisitions, including that of Amer Sports in 2019 (Salomon, Arcteryx, Peak Performance) and more recently Jack Wolfskin

“By integrating sportswear with fashion-forward design, we aim to better meet the preferences of China’s younger generation,” stated Wu Yonghua, Co-CEO of ANTA Sports.

Joonmo Park, CEO of MUSINSA, said the new company plans to tap “various retail channels and deliver differentiated brand experiences to Chinese consumers” to “capture the attention of young consumers in the dynamic Chinese market”.
