Only chooses textile-to-textile polyester
Circular textile technology company RE&UP has partnered with Bestseller’s women’s brand ONLY to introduce a jersey programme made with textile-to-textile recycled polyester.
RE&UP uses a modular recycling process that separates polyester and cotton in end-of-life garments and converts them into fibres.
In this first collaboration with Only, more than 100,000 T-shirts across 11 styles were produced using RE&UP’s “Next-Gen Polyester”.
According to RE&UP, the project demonstrates that textile-to-textile recycled fibres can be produced at scale and remain cost-competitive.
Chief commercial officer Ozgur Atsan said: “Transforming the industry is undoubtedly a complex and lengthy process, but initiatives like this demonstrate we are making progress.”
Bestseller is revising its sustainability strategy, Fashion FWD, and has said it will include a new 2030 target for recycled polyester, with an emphasis on textile-to-textile and innovative alternatives to virgin fibres.
Eindhoven-based RE&UP is part of Turkish group Sanko and produces both Next-Gen Cotton and Next-Gen Polyester for use in mainstream fashion applications.
