RE&UP secures C2C Circularity for all products
Netherlands-headquartered textile recycler RE&UP has become the first textile brand to receive Cradle to Cradle Certified Circularity for all products.
Its pre-consumer recycled cotton and post-consumer recycled cotton received the platinum standard while the textile-to-textile recycled polyester chips were certified circularity at silver level.
C2C Circularity was introduced last autumn, and assesses whether a product is designed for continuous cycles of safe, high-value reuse. Technical indicators include end-of-life recovery systems, publicly available circularity data and chemical safety.
Ebru Özküçük Guler, chief sustainability officer at RE&UP, added: “Our materials were assessed not just for recycled content, but for their compatibility with future recovery, safe use cycles, and the sustainability of the surrounding infrastructure all of which are critical to providing true circularity solutions at a scale to the largest players in textiles. It reflects the robust technology of our approach and our commitment to creating solutions that don’t compromise on quality, scale, or impact.”
Elwyn Grainger-Jones, CEO of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, added: “This achievement sets a strong precedent for what fibre innovation can look like in a circular economy. It raises the bar for what’s possible and expected from material suppliers across the fashion and textile sectors.”
RE&UP is owned by Isko Denim-owner Sanko Textiles. It has facilities in Turkey and is eyeing France or Spain as a next location. It has a 200,000 tonne per year recycling capacity and plans to scale up to more than 1 million tonnes by 2030.
