A Xefco Ausora machine lands in Vietnam
Australian clean tech company Xefco has announced that an Ausora machine will be installed in a Shinta Woo Sung (SWS) facility in Vietnam. The device generates a plasma field which deposits dyes or a functional finish on fabrics. Common finishes that can be applied include water repellency, anti-odour, moisture wicking, etc. The waterless system operates at atmospheric pressure. It thus eliminates wastewater discharge and is also said to cut chemical usage by 97%, lower energy consumption by 90%, and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by 94%.

“For colouring, the plasma field pulverises the pigment molecules and makes them adhere to a fabric without a fixing agent. There is no need for any precursor chemicals nor for a rinse after colouration,” Timothy Skedzuhn, global head of sales, told Sportstextiles

The machine processes bolts of fabrics roll to roll at room temperature and can apply colour to any ground. “There are no restrictions on colours or fibres,” he said. In the device, pigments or chemicals are applied on a single side of the fabric, but dye penetration has been found to be fairly high, making it possible to colour both sides in a single pass. The company said it was working on a double-sided system for thick fabrics.

Xefco has chosen a business model in which it does not charge for the machine, and has already lined up a second customer in Indonesia.

The high-tech portfolio of the company based in Eveleigh, NSW, includes X-Reflex, a technology that deposits a fine layer of aluminium on textiles to create a surface that will reflect body heat back to the wearer. This is useful to increase the thermal efficiency of insulated clothing.
