3D knitting innovation at Houdini
Swedish eco-minded outdoor brand Houdini has introduced an ultra lightweight insulation using Shima-Seiki Wholegarment zero-waste knitting looms. The new Airweb fabric is made from high-tech yarns developed by Teijin. The Japanese producer’s Waveron has a flat and grooved cross-section that wicks away moisture. Its unique structure makes it possible to produce an open-structured knit, for maximum airflow without being see-through, the company said. It is blended with Teijin’s Deltapeak yarn which gives the knit a soft and fuzzy hand feel.

The open knit structure, in combination with the lofty fuzzy fibres, traps a layer of warm air near the skin and offers a high level of breathability “that no conventional fabrics can match,” the brand said. It also commended the fabric’s stretch and recovery which provides ample freedom of movement and “a completely unrestricted feeling”.

The Lykan Airweb range is available in different styles, crew neck top, half zip top, balaclava and as a neck gaiter.
