Adidas creates first American football shoe designed for speed
Adidas has unveiled its first American football shoe designed for speed, after working with athlete Rome Odunze for two years and being inspired the insight that the fastest players need superior braking performance to create separation.
The Adizero Horizon is a lightweight cleat engineered with strategically placed studs delivering more powerful braking, sharper cuts and faster acceleration, said the company.
Marc Makowski, senior vice-president of creative direction and innovation at Adidas, said: “We’ve long prioritised designing for speed, but as the game gets faster, we realised the real unlock is what happens between moments of top speed: the brake, the cut, the burst.”
The cleat features more studs than any other adidas cleat, and they extend up the heel. An interior plate works in conjunction with a metallic exterior plate to provide the stiffening elements needed to enhance energy return. The exterior heel extends from the heel to the forefoot, where it splits into three fingers to facilitate more responsive traction and natural articulation of the foot.
The Adizero Horizon will be available this autumn, with Adidas athletes using it already.
