M&S invests in solar project for Indian farmers
UK-based retailer M&S has launched an initiative to accelerate access to clean energy and strengthen biodiverse farming practices across cotton growing communities in India.
Working with Pilio, a “sustainability innovator”, the Clean Environment (ACE) cotton programme will unlock financing for both solar technologies, helping reduce carbon emissions.
The ACE cotton programme will also introduce “nature-positive approaches” such as native plantings for wildlife and nature corridors connecting fields.
All cotton in M&S clothing is from Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), recycled or organic sources since 2019, and home textiles are aiming for the same this year.
Catherine Bottrill, CEO of Pilio, said: “Access to clean energy strengthens the prosperity of farming communities while reducing emissions and delivering positive outcomes for biodiversity.”
