Armedangels presents first natural windbreaker
German brand Armedangels has taken its first step into “non-synthetic performance” with a windbreaker made almost entirely from natural materials.
Working with Montebello and Taiwanese fabric manufacturer Hermin, the jacket is made from a completely wood-based ripstop fabric made out of 100% Tencel Lyocell fibres.
The fabric is woven from ultra-fine lyocell yarns and finished under pressure and heat to enhance its performance.
The result is a lightweight, breathable, quick-drying material that delivers effective wind resistance and protection from light rain.
Careful attention to detail underpins the design: 99.9% of the trims are crafted from non-synthetic, non–oil-based alternatives, only a small amount of plastic remains in the zip due to technical limitations.
Martin Höfeler, founder of Armedangels, said: “From day one, I have believed that fashion should not come at the expense of the planet. In performance outerwear, however, synthetic materials are still widely seen as the only viable option. With 97% wind resistance, a membrane-free construction and a significantly reduced plastic footprint, this windbreaker demonstrates that wind protection and everyday functionality can be achieved through material innovation.”
He added that what makes this project exceptional is the depth of collaboration and traceability behind it. “Together with Lenzing and Montebelo, we built full transparency across the entire value chain, from certified wood sources to the finished garment. This is a market-ready proof of concept that demonstrates how outerwear can be engineered differently.”
Sportstextiles will report on this project in greater depth in an upcoming feature.
