Harnest launches Responsible Trims Collection

Thread and trims maker Harnest is launching a new collection of ‘responsible trims’ made from a selection of low-impact materials available on an industrial scale. The vertical manufacturer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh said that trims can account for more than 40% of a garment’s bill of materials (an inventory of the components needed to make a product) and are often a barrier to recycling.

The ‘responsible’ collection will feature five raw materials offering safer solutions or recycled from textile or plastic waste. Suppliers include OceanSafe (Swiss), Ambercycle (US), BlockTexx (Australia), Indorama Ventures (Thailand) and Jairen (Japan).

The first material Harnest has integrated into the new collection is OceanSafe’s naNea, a polyester variant that can break down (in certain conditions) without leaving any harmful substances, it is certified Cradle-to-Cradle Gold.

Other innovative materials will be integrated in the collection in time, the company said.

Blocktexx T2T recycled polyester has been used to make buttons and other trimmings by Asian trim supplier Oletta. (See here for more info).
