Rossignol combines compression with Lycra Sport in new ski collection
Ski brand Rossignol has launched new clothing specifically for cross-country skiing using Lycra Sport fabrics and proprietary compression technology.

According to the brand, a year of research and testing involving two universities, six biomechanical and physiological scientists, a selection of world-class athletes and Rossignol’s own racing team were involved in developing the technology, which is called Infinity.

This research involved studying the way muscles work during cross-country skiing, with Rossignol claiming this specific research had never been carried out before. “We studied knee and elbow flexion with mechanical variables, to better understand the influence compression has on muscle activation associated with how the pole is planted and how the skis move,” said Jason McLaren, an expert in biomechanics and member of the Institute for Sports Research at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, who led the research.

Daniel Heil from the Movement Science Lab of Montana State University in Bozeman also took part, focusing on the physiological aspects. Lower heart rate, lactic acid and oxygen consumption were among the benefits he observed.

The Infinity range includes eight references, two fabric weights with a warmer one for wearing on its own when skiing and a thinner version to wear as a baselayer, six men’s sizes and five women’s sizes.
