C-Velo has LEDs embedded into the yarn, which can then be knitted or woven, with the lights then acting as a safety feature.
“Just as brands like Rapha have enabled fashion to cross over into functionality in the cycling market, we believe that C-Velo can utilise wearable technology to take this to the next level,” said the university’s business relationships manager, Si Beales.
The team is pitching against three designs including a baby monitor the size of a button and a prosthetic socket to help amputees.
Paul Litchfield, head of Reebok Advanced Concepts, is one of the conference’s keynote speakers alongside Kim Scheffler, wearables development manager at adidas, and Paul Brody, vice-president of electronics at computer group IBM.
