US: Shoe brands volunteer time to helping communities

Employees from US-based sports and outdoor brands have been volunteering across the country as part Footwear Cares Month, an initiative organised by the Two Ten Foundation to support communities.

Reebok, New Balance, Under Armour, Wolverine and Puma joined around 100 other companies, with 6,500 donating their time.

Volunteers in Kansas City helped build a garage and packed a month’s worth of groceries for more than 1,000 senior citizens and 700 children. In California, volunteers packaged 1,360 pounds of rice and bread for distribution to food banks, and more than 750 in Indiana gathered to pack 247,800 packets of food for children in need.

As the campaign heads into its final week, Two Ten president Neal Newman said: “While we recognise that the communities and organisations we are supporting are grateful for our help, we also know that in many cases we are just scratching the surface of what is really required to make a difference."
