Adidas publishes sustainability report
Adidas improved on its target of using 15% Better Cotton by 2013 by sourcing 23% from producers in the scheme during the year.

The German sportswear group highlighted the achievement in its new sustainability report, in which it committed to using ‘sustainable cotton’ in 100% of products by 2018.

The SMS for workers project, launched at the end of 2012, was expanded to five facilities in Indonesia and one in Vietnam, covering 35,000 factory workers. It allows employees to text concerns or suggestions to management. The group also supported 1,000 local community projects financially or through employee volunteering.

Two million yards of DryDye fabric were produced by the end of 2013, saving 50 million litres of water and adidas said it would further roll out the “game-changing technology” this year.

It also inserted heel counters made out of recycled material into 110 million pairs of shoes, saving 1,500 tonnes of polystyrene from landfill.
