Performance Days names innovation and sustainability winners
Germany-based textile fair Performance Days has announced the winner of its annual Performance Award, plus the recipient of its inaugural Eco Performance Award, in the run-up to the show at the end of this month.

In a highly contested category, Italian manufacturer Penn Textile Solutions has scooped Performance Award for a new system to produce an elastic, reinforced waistband with gripper, without the seams. The gripper strips are incorporated during the knitting process and prevent the waistband from slipping.

The first Eco award goes to Swiss exhibitor ATAG for a bonded mid-layer material which uses the Drydye dyeing process for its merino wool. DryDye dues textiles using CO² rather than water and it requires only half the energy consumption - a topic we looked at in detail in WSA May/June 2014 - available to download from the technical library.

Cooling will again be a key topic at the show, whether by means of fibre cross-section, mineral particles or changing the physical state.

‘Visibility’ has also been further developed. In addition to offering colourful illumination with reflective prints, developments mix reflective elements with visible fabric print motifs.

Performance Days takes place in Munich on April 28 and 29.
