Responsible merino sourcing will be main focus at Performance Days

Schoeller Yarn, Südwolle and Textile Exchange will speak about its increasing use in the outdoor and sports sectors and link it to the protection of animals.
WSA's technical editor, Sophie Bramel, will chair a discussion called 'What's next in Performance Wool?' at 2.30pm on April 29.
Organisers said: “Natural materials used in clothing have come under fire recently: The painful practice of mulesing of merino sheep or the use of chlorine to bleach the wool is harmful to the animals and the environment. Performance Days accepts a responsibility to take up this discussion and joins exhibitors in contributing to the education of the industry.”
The Performance Forum will highlight merino suppliers who are certified as being mulesing-free or do not use harmful chemicals in the processing of the wool.
The series of lectures also includes sustainability issues such as regulations related to PFAs (per and poly-fluorinated plastics).
Senior project manager Stefanie Sacherow said: “The idea of sustainability is elementary for us as a trade fair for the sport sector. This is one reason we are preparing this important topic to present the alternatives as comprehensively as possible in cooperation with our exhibitors. We address this offer equally to the sport and the fashion sectors, as this is a major topic for both areas."
