Pentland’s acquisition strategy pays off

UK-based sports and outdoor group Pentland Group has published some highlights of 2013, which include record revenues for Speedo, Lacoste Chaussures and Ted Baker footwear.

The private company did not release full financial details but did say group revenue for the year to December 31 was up 10% to £1.9bn and profit rose 36% to £85m; while revenue from Pentland Brands and other non-retail businesses increased 11% to £590m.

JD Sports Fashion, a sportswear and outdoor clothing retailer in which Pentland Group holds a 57% share, reported revenues up 9% to £1.3bn.

JD and athletic footwear retailer Size? reported record revenue growth in the core UK and Irish market, and this was further supported by investment in overseas retail. JD continued to invest through the acquisition of businesses such as Cloggs, Ark Fashion, Activeinstinct and Tiso.

Pentland manages owned brands such as Berghaus, Canterbury, Speedo, Boxfresh, Ellesse, KangaROOS, Mitre and Red or Dead and is the global licensee for Lacoste Chaussures and Ted Baker footwear and Kickers in the UK.
