Japanese fibre and fabric manufacturer Teijin has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia/Pacific Index, a benchmark for socially responsible investing, for the sixth consecutive year.

DJSI, which was introduced in 1999 by Dow Jones and research firm RobecoSAM, assesses the economic, environmental and social performance of 3,300 companies to identify those that demonstrate sustainability leadership.

Teijin was named one of five Japanese companies among the 10 firms in the DJSI Asia/Pacific’s chemical industry. In total, 148 companies out of 600 were selected for this year's index.

“Teijin appreciates the continued recognition of its leadership in sustainability through responsible industrial development befitting customers, society and the environment, as well as shareholders,” said the company in a statement.
