Outdoor brand Sherpa Adventure Gear has invited outdoor enthusiasts to a party on August 6 to say thank you to people who helped it contribute to relief efforts following a devastating earthquake in Nepal in April

The company said an appeal it launched immediately after the earthquake has raised over $200,000 and said it wanted to thank industry friends and donors at a reception during the Outdoor Retail Summer Market exhibition in Salt Lake City.

“Individuals, groups, suppliers and industry partners generously donated cash and essential supplies such as clothing, tarps, blankets, tents, and water purifiers,” the company explained at the start of Outdoor Retailer. It said half the funds have still to be spent, but it estimates that relief efforts had reached 2,500 households, helping 11,000 people, by early July.

Company founder, Tashi Sherpa, who was in Nepal for two months before, during and after the earthquake, said he would use the Salt Lake City gathering to share stories of passionate efforts made by local people, visitors, Sherpa Adventure Gear employees and ambassadors in the wake of the earthquake.

“Please come join us and let us personally thank you for helping rebuild Nepal,” he said.
