Space travel provides inspiration for sportswear

Swedish sportswear brand Björn Borg has launched a space-inspired sportswear collection for spring-summer 2016 on the first day of Stockholm Fashion Week.

The brand’s founder, tennis player Björn Borg, attended the fashion show under the Västerbron bridge in the capital.

Retro styles, colours and silhouettes were clashed with high-performance materials, detailing and techniques.

James Lee, head of design at Björn Borg, said: “We have now shown the world how to train for Mars, and hope that our tribute can inspire to epic adventures.”

Space travel has also inspired Switzerland’s Schoeller and Germany’s Hohenstin Institute, which are running a competition to design space clothing, Spacetex.

NASA also enlisted the help of the public to design its new space suits. (WSA May-June 2014. Available as an ezine or as a pdf in the Technical Library. Use the keyword ‘NASA’).
