Aquafil has now turned 160 tonnes of fishing nets into Econyl

Italian yarn company Aquafil has announced that almost 160 tonnes of discarded fishing nets have been transformed into its Econyl nylon product in three years.

It said 650 fishing boats and 75 volunteer divers have taken part in the Healthy Seas initiaitve over the three-year period, collecting unwanted nets from the sea around Italy, Greece, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK.

Aquafil has supplied the Econyl to finished product manufacturers who have incorporated the yarn into garments and carpets.
