Volcom unveils “ocean friendly” swimsuit range
Kering-owned sportswear group Volcom is to make its first foray into the swimwear market with a range of swimsuits made using recycled yarn from Italian yarn company Aquafil.

The swimwear line will be composed of 78% Econyl, a recycled nylon fibre which Aquafil makes using waste collected from the world’s oceans. It converts abandoned fishing nets into a nylon filament at its chemical plant in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This can then be spun, woven or knitted into a usable fabric.

“We wanted this collection to be more than beautiful patterns and functional pieces,” said Lindsey Roach, head of women’s business at Volcom. “The fact that it is made with recovered fishing nets creates a natural connection to surf culture, which fully understands the value of keeping the ocean clean.”
