World Bank says a million people a month enter apparel industry in South Asia

The World Bank has released a new report looking at the long-term prospects of the textiles and apparel industry in South Asia. The report, entitled ‘Stitches to Riches’, says that 1 million employees are expected to start working in the industry every month for the next few decades.

According to the World Bank, companies and governments in the region must make sure the best of these workers have good jobs to move into to keep people motivated.

In ‘Stitches to Riches’, it estimates that apparel and textile producers account for 40% of all manufacturing employment in South Asia, which includes India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
