Cotton Inc. brings fabrics dyed with cotton-derived dye to Première Vision

The two companies have collaborated to develop what they believe is the first textile dye derived from the residues of cotton plants. It offers the opportunity to create and colour a fabric using a single plant source for the first time.
Cotton Inc. says the technology addresses two important concerns of the textile industry: sustainability and traceability. The sulphur-based dyes are suitable for use on cellulosic fibres, such as cotton, and are derived from cotton biomass.
"As soon as we heard about the EarthColors technology, we wanted to explore the possibilities of cotton as a natural dye source," says Mary Ankeny, senior director of textile chemistry research at Cotton Inc.
Nuria Estape, Archroma’s head of textile specialities, global marketing and promotion, said the company was grateful to Cotton Inc. for presenting them with this challenge and said the result demonstrates Archroma’s “dedication to support and inspire sustainable fashion”.
