ZDHC decision a logical step for Oeko-Tex

Zurich-based certification body Oeko-Tex has said its recently announced decision to become part of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme was a logical step for an organisation that has been been committed to helping companies produce safer textiles and operate more sustainably since 1992.

After twenty-five years, it said, its Standard 100 certification platform is “a global benchmark for textile products” that have been tested to be free from harmful levels of more than 300 concerning chemicals.

Oeko-Tex general secretary, Georg Dieners, said his organisation now looks forward to “engaging actively” with ZDHC and its other members “to achieve the milestones” set forth in the joint roadmap ZDHC set up at its launch, which asked textile companies to eliminate hazardous chemicals from their supply chains by 2020.
