Bloggers help Sympatex develop “functional jacket 4.0”
High-tech functional materials developer Sympatex Technologie is to present what it calls the “functional jacket 4.0” at the forthcoming OutDoor exhibition in Friedrichshafen (June 18-21).

It is the result of work Sympatex carried out with a group of 20 outdoor bloggers and influencers at the Mittenwald in the Bavarian Alps in May. They were trying to answer the question: “How do you imagine the ultimate functional jacket 4.0?”

The material used in the jacket is a 100% recycled laminate from Sympatex’s current portfolio. The membrane consists of 100% polyether-ester; its production waste is completely resused through the company’s pre-consumer cycling scheme. The outer fabrics and linings consist of polyester fibres certified by the global recycled standard (GRS) and bluesign.

The CEO of Sympatex, Dr Rüdiger Fox, explains: “Our closed loop meets textile industry 4.0 lighthouse project deals with the development of a customisable, recycled and in turn recyclable functional jacket 4.0. We are not going to produce our own collection in the future, but we want to give an example of all available opportunities that can already be implemented in terms of ecology.”

Customers will be able to purchase the jacket from June 18. They will have the opportunity to customise their jacket from different colour samples and design elements. All the options were developed at the event in Mittenwald in May.
