Sympatex to unveil first closed-loop textile from wear2wear initiative

Five European companies launched a partnership in May to develop production systems that will allow for textile fibres from used clothing to be turned into new functional fabrics.
Wear2wear forms part of Sympatex’s Agenda 2020 strategy, through which it aims to offer recycled and recyclable functional textiles by 2020.
"We have launched an open platform with our wear2wear cooperation, which is able to completely close the polyester cycle for textiles from the collection to the new textile," said Dr Rüdiger Fox, CEO of Sympatex Technologies.
"It is available for all other partners who are committed to a closed materials cycle in the textile industry, and with each additional member, we are getting closer to realising a sustainable clothing industry."
The manufacture of a Sympatex copolymer produces 50 times less CO2 compared with a similar PTFE membrane, according to the company. Sympatex has been offsetting the remaining CO2 it produces through participation in climate protection projects.
The company has found new buyers for its Moisture-Tech shoe technology: the French police force. Italian safety shoe manufacturer Diadora has also chosen the technology and its first model will be presented at A+A (October 17 to 20) alongside the wear2wear project.
