Nike to release documentary about marathon record attempt

The aim of the project was to propel an athlete to the first sub-hour-marathon time in history. It culminated on May 6, when Kenyan Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge completed the event in two hours, 25 seconds, agonisingly short of the target.
Nike developed a “complete product system”, including footwear, apparel and socks, to help the athletes with temperature regulation, aerodynamics and propulsion. Among the products was the Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite running shoe, which features a light, responsive foam in the midsole to give better energy return and a “scoop-shaped” carbon fibre plate to add bending stiffness and prevent energy loss when bending at the toe.
The documentary will be produced by Dirty Robber, an Academy Award-nominated production and entertainment company. It will be broadcast in the US and Europe on National Geographic in September, as well as being made available across the globe on digital platforms.
“This project has been over two years in the making and with National Geographic’s unparalleled global reach, we hope to bring this story of passion and courage to create conversation and inspire people to think differently about how they approach their daily lives,” said Nikki Neuburger, vice president of brand marketing for Nike’s global running division.
“We’re excited to share the story of these three amazing runners, and the team of scientists and product developers, on their journey to challenge the limits of human potential,” she added.
