A US start-up has smashed its crowdfunding target by 3,000%, which will enable it to create sneakers with the design programmed on to the side with a smart phone.

Shiftwear will use flexible screen technology that wirelessly links to the mobile app, making it easy to change the image or video. 

Shiftwear founder David Coelho said: “The technology is based on years of research and development, but we’re now in a situation where the possibilities of this technology are endless; it could be applied to countless other applications and we’re excited to lead this movement and explore all the options that will stem from these truly spectacular sneakers.”

Prototypes have been developed, and the first collection is due early next year.
