US sportswear brand Columbia has reported sales of $2.47 billion in 2017, a 4% increase compared to the previous full year and a record annual performance.

Net sales of apparel, accessories and equipment increased 3% to $1.93 billion, while there was a 5% improvement in sales of footwear, which came in at $538.1 million.

Columbia’s record year comes off the back of a strong fourth quarter when sales increased 8% year on year to $776 million. This was also a record for the company.

Columbia president and CEO, Tim Boyle, said: "We are pleased to report better than expected fourth quarter results, including continued growth in Europe, North America, and with our distributor partners around the world. In 2017, we reported record net sales, gross margin, and operating income."

He added that he expects 2018 to be “a year of continued revenue and earnings growth”, with the company forecasting revenue to grow by between 5.5% and 7.5% for the full year.
