Colorado-based backpack brand Osprey has marked the formation of its new advanced concepts team, which will be known as The AlphaLab, with a series of appointments.

Chris Graham, currently vice president of product, will take over as vice president of innovation and will lead The AlphaLab. He will be joined in this team by Mike Pfotenhauer, Osprey’s co-founder and lead designer, as well as new members of Osprey’s in-house development and engineering teams.

The AlphaLab will focus on developing technical innovations, new production solutions and sustainable initiatives.

In line with this programme, Osprey has hired Ed Gavin, formerly of adidas, Under Armour and Nike, as vice president of operations, and Michael Mayer as director of design. Guillaume Schweitzer has also come on board as director of production & quality control.

“We are thrilled to welcome these new leaders to our organisation,” said Layne Rigney, president of Osprey. “Their arrival, along with the creation of The AlphaLab, enables Osprey’s short and long-term commitments to innovation to not only expand but thrive in an environment of considered design.”
