DyStar confident of hitting 2020 sustainability targets
08/10/2018
This is the seventh year of DyStar’s journey towards this target. It includes all the resources used for production, including energy, water and raw material, as well as their corresponding outputs, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, waste and wastewater. The company records these figures in terms of their impact per tonne of production.
Of the six categories mentioned above, DyStar has successfully met or surpassed its 2020 targets for four of them. The figures refer to the difference in impact from 2011 to 2017.
Its wastewater per tonne of production is down 30% during this period, its water usage has decreased 39%, and its raw materials usage has fallen by 21%. In addition, its waste production has dropped 25%.
The two targets missed are for energy consumption and GHG emissions, although these figures have decreased by 7% and 9% respectively since 2011.
DyStar explained that it is yet to achieve these targets primarily due to the impacts of three newly acquired production sites. It added, however, that it is optimistic that all six targets will be achieved by 2020.
