The company said this represents the culmination of more than five years of work, which has included what it called “challenging negotiation” with the Vietnamese government.
The silkworms from these two shipments have hatched and have begun their diet of fresh mulberry leaves.
Making the announcement, Kraig’s chief operating officer Jon Rice said: “The dream of commercialising our powerful technology is now materialising. This marks a dramatic leap forward in Kraig Labs’ business plan for commercial production and mass marketing of cost-effective recombinant spider silk, and becomes the foundation for an entirely new industry.”
