Kraig takes important step towards Vietnam expansion

Spider silk-based fibre developer Kraig Biocraft has announced it has secured verbal approval to import its hybrid silkworms into Vietnam.

The news comes after members of the company’s management team met with high level provincial and central government officials. It is now clear to begin selective breeding of its silkworms.

Kraig has described it as “a critical step in advancing plans for commercial production in South East Asia”.

During the visit to Vietnam, Kraig officials also met with a local architecture firm to review the master build plan for its proposed production site in Quang Nam province. They are now working with officials from the province to formalise the verbal approvals.

“To the best of our knowledge, clearance from one additional governmental unit is the only remaining regulatory hurdle to advancing the company’s plans for selective breeding in Vietnam,” said Kraig chief operating officer, Jon Rice.
