Spider silk developer Kraig Biocraft Laboratories says it has reached planned capacity at its new production facility in Indiana, US ahead of schedule.

The company says it has hired and is training additional full-time workers to support the increased output of the factory. It expects to maintain the current level of silk production during the rest of 2016 and it is reviewing plans for further expansion of its capacity in the face of demand from the industry.

“The last 30 days have been a buzz of activity at our new plant,” said Kraig chief operating officer, Jon Rice. “In this short period of time our team has already identified and implemented a number of process and equipment efficiency improvements, which further reinforce our position as the industry leader in spider silk technologies.”

Following completion of the first phase of its contract with the US army, Kraig is assessing the facility’s output in preparation for the delivery of its Dragon Silk product to industry customers.
