Kraig secures approval for investment in Vietnam

The Vietnamese government has awarded an investment certificate to spider silk-based fibre developer Kraig Biocraft, the company has announced.

It brings Kraig a step closer to establishing a production site for its material in the Vietnamese province of Quang Nam. The company must now seek final approval from the central government, with efforts to do so already underway.

The certificate was awarded at the 2017 Quang Nam Investment Conference, which was attended by national and regional government officials, as well as Kraig CEO and founder Kim Thompson and COO Jon Rice.

“This is a huge step forward in our plans to expand production on a large scale. We look forward to the opportunity to revitalise silk production, using high technology, in an area of the world with a strong history of quality silks and textiles,” Mr Thompson said.
