Spider silk developer plants 2,000 mulberry trees in Texas

Spider silk-based fibre developer Kraig Biocraft has planted 2,000 new mulberry trees in Texas.

It said it expects to begin harvesting mulberry leaves from these trees in the third or fourth quarter of 2017, which it will use in its spider silk operations. Kraig said it aims to support of its US silk production in this way, dispensing with the need for “expensive artificial diet”.
