Kraig picks location for Vietnamese facility

Spider silk-based fibre developer Kraig Biocraft has selected the province of Quang Nam as the location for its new operational headquarters in Vietnam.

The company has been working on establishing a production facility in the country over the past 12 months. As part of this, several of the company’s leadership team have visited the country to meet with local and national government officials and to survey potential sites. Kraig was awarded an investment certificate by the Vietnamese government in March.

Kraig has said its new facility will be based in the heart of Quang Nam province, where there is a supply of skilled workers, close proximity to mulberry fields, and easy access to international air and sea ports.

The facility will be used for the first shipment of Kraig’s transgenic silkworm technology into Vietnam.

“Identifying our corporate headquarters was an essential part of our application to import our silkworms into Vietnam,” said Jon Rice, Kraig’s chief operating officer. “With this location finalised we are now preparing the final importation documents for submission in order to obtain approval to begin work with our hybrid silk technology in Vietnam.”
