Egyptian cotton supply chain to implement Applied DNA system
03/05/2019
This will be achieved by implementing Applied DNA’s SigNature T DNA tracking system. The company said the necessary molecular tag and delivery system have been shipped and that cotton tagging is expected to commence within the month.
The SigNature T system is already installed in eight cotton gins worldwide, according to Applied DNA. It involves the use of molecular tags, internet-based data collection linking evidence of tagging process quality to each bale ID, and barcode scanning of tagged packaged bales for inventory management and tracking.
Making this announcement, Dr James Hayward, president and CEO of Applied DNA, said: “With receipt of this order for Egyptian cotton supply chain tagging and testing, we are moving to replicate our success in securing US cotton through its supply chain.”
He added that there are “growing calls for increased transparency and traceability by consumers, brands and industry advocates” and so its SigNature T system can help protect the value of Egyptian cotton.
