Algae ink helps Vollebak address biodegradability
Clothing brand Vollebak has used ink developed from algae to make garments more biodegradable.

A new product called the Plant and Algae T-shirt will decompose in 12 weeks in the ground, the brand has said. It is made from fibre sourced from certified eucalyptus, beech, and spruce forests. And the ink used to make a green rectangular design feature on the front comes from algae.

Vollebak took algae water and passed it through a filter to create a paste. It dried this paste is dried in the sun to create a fine green powder, which it mixed with a water-based binder to create the ink.
