Speciality materials provider Eastman, the maker of Naia cellulosic yarn, has joined global non-profit organisation Textile Exchange, which is committed to reducing the industry’s environmental impact.

The 2019 Textile Sustainability Conference, held October 15-18, saw Eastman’s sustainability leader, Natalia Allen, participate in a discussion on biodiversity.

MS Allen said: “I’m pleased to highlight Eastman’s companywide commitment to sustainable forestry management as an example of how the company has integrated land and biodiversity considerations into its business model. And to raise awareness about Naia, a versatile, eco-friendly material for sustainable fashion.”

Naia, which has the ‘OK biodegradeable’ and ‘OK compost’ conformity marks, was featured at the conference’s C.L.A.S.S. booth, a resource for smart material innovation, and recently sponsored the Redress Design Award, a sustainability fashion design competition.

Eastman has also partnered Canopy to collaborate on endangered forest conservation, and joined the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Circular Economy 100, to create solutions for a more circular economy.
