Vaude’s 2020 collection bets on sustainability and function

The sustainable materials extend from environmentally-friendly dyes in apparel, to fleece made with wood cellulose, to sleeping bags that minimise fabric consumption.
In the Urban Life collection, 40% of products are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), a textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed by certification of the entire textile supply chain. In this case, it means Vaude has used at least 70% organic cotton, sometimes blended with recycled polyester.
Vaude has also made use of Natural Dye by Archroma Earth Colours, which is based on vegetable residuals. The dye is said to be locally available and to conserve crude oil when compared with conventional petrochemical dyeing methods.
The biodegradable fleece fabric Vaude developed in 2018 is being used more broadly now, with ecological fleece made from wood cellulose extended to all apparel lines.
A new family of sleeping bags uses a the company's spiral patterning design that’s said to be economical in fabric consumption. Some bags come with high-performance synthetic fill Sensofiber, while others consist of kapok, a plant-based down, and shells and linings are made from recycled polyamide.
