Lenzing’s new facilities key to climate neutrality

At its annual meeting, Austrian fibre producer Lenzing noted while 2020 was impacted by the covid-19 pandemic, it remained "fully on track" and continued to "determinedly press ahead" with its strategic objectives.
The maker of Tencel and Modal in 2019 committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions per ton of product by 50% by 2030 and to be climate neutral by 2050.
Key to this are facilities under construction in Thailand and Brazil.
The facility in Thailand is conceived as a CO2 neutral production plant, whose infrastructure allows for a sustainable biogenic energy supply. Production there is expected to commence towards the end of this year.
The plant in Brazil will feed more than half the generated electricity into the public grid as renewable energy, giving it a positive net carbon footprint, and it is scheduled to be put into operation in the first half of next year. It will significantly increase Lenzing’s in-house supply of dissolving pulp.
From now, board pay will be linked to non-financial sustainability criteria (ESG) to promote the sustainability goals.
