Birla Cellulose’s Liva Reviva praised by UN GCNI
Mumbai-based maker of cellulosic fibre Birla Cellulose, part of India’s Aditya Birla Group, recently won an award at the first ever National Innovative and Sustainable Supply Chain Awards, ran by non-profit United Nations (UN) Global Compact Network India (GCNI).
The company’s Liva Reviva viscose (made from 80% wood pulp content and 20% pre-consumer fabric waste), first introduced in 2020, was singled out for “innovation in recycled and circular fibre”, local media said. It was additionally praised for its live, end-to-end supply chain “transparency and traceability” via blockchain-enabled platform GreenTrack.
Birla Cellulose’s business director, Dilip Gaur, commented: “We are proud to have been recognised for our innovative next generation solution for upcycling textile waste, reducing the pressure on virgin materials and establishing transparency throughout the complex fashion value chain.
“These efforts are aligned to our prioritised UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and focused on building circular business models based on partnerships that add value to stakeholders, people and planet.”
Executive director at UN Global Compact Network India, Shabnam Siddiqui, added: “We congratulate Birla Cellulose for their pioneering work in accelerating supply chain circularity and transparency, both high-priority UN SDGs, in a short time.”
