New Balance's MADE Responsibly 998s handmade with surplus materials
Boston-headquartered activewear brand New Balance is set to release a variety of one-of-a-kind 998 trainers, handmade with a mix of leftover and new materials, as part of the second iteration of the brand’s MADE Responsibly programme.
Excess materials including pig suede make up the overlays, body mesh, lining, laces, trim, soles and collar strip, while new fabrics have been incorporated into the design of the interior foam, counter and box toe (all reportedly from New Balance’s stocked material toolbox).
Product manager for MADE footwear ay New Balance, John Timulty, commented: “New Balance remains committed to high-quality craftsmanship and making every piece of material count.
“Our designers created a colour palette that is both creative and aesthetically pleasing, which resulted in a MADE Responsibly 998 style that is truly one-of-a-kind.”
