Report reveals yoga shoes’ new posture in China
Beijing-based e-commerce firm JD.com has reported on findings by its own internal consumption and industrial development research institute which would suggest that domestic sales of yoga and dance-related products have surged in recent months.

While the exact date range under observation was not disclosed, among other findings the report’s authors revealed that sales of yoga footwear, dance shoes and yoga bags all increased by 816%, 700% and 104%, respectively, year on year.

Beyond yoga and dance, the most popular sports activities over the past month, according to JD’s data, were badminton, basketball and table tennis, plus fishing, cycling and general fitness training such as arm, leg and abdomen development exercises.

The findings also noted how consumers across the board are more likely to workout at home, at least presently, especially shoppers in northern provinces such as Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Jilin. Meanwhile, those in Beijing, Tianjin and elsewhere in northern China currently show a preference towards ball sports-related equipment for indoor exercise.

Consumers located in Ningxia and Inner Mongolia purchased more cycling equipment for outdoor activities, by contrast, whereas shoppers hailing from Hunan and Hubei provinces showed a clear tendency towards investing in fishing and its related gear.

Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing, Sichuan and Shandong-based shoppers ranked first in terms of sports equipment purchases overall.
