Kornit event explores on-demand manufacturing
Technology company Kornit’s Fashion Week London, which was held between May 15 and 17, explored the possibilities of nearshoring and on-demand production through key note and panel sessions, and catwalk shows of clothing made with the Israeli company’s latest machinery.

Bill McRaith, former chief supply chain officer at Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein parent PVH, delivered a keynote speech called “Are you and your partners agile and ready to meet changing consumer demands in a sustainable way?” He analysed evolving challenges of supply chain economics, managing inventory, curbing overproduction and the value of bringing production closer to home.

He said: “Many of the rules that made the fashion industry successful over the last 30 years just don’t apply anymore. Companies must take a fresh look at their internal processes, value chains, inventory models and the appropriate balance between producing product offshore and onshore.”

Designer Patrick Grant, owner of clothing manufacturer Cookson & Clegg, asked “Are You Comfortable in Your Clothes?”, sharing his views on where the industry is heading.

Ronen Samuel, CEO at Kornit Digital, said: “According to a report by McKinsey, the new face of this industry is digital and on-demand – with investments in technology expected to double by 2030.” He added that the company explored these trends at Kornit Fashion Week, demonstrating the “brilliance, diversity and values of visionaries leading this transformation”.

In March, Kornit Digital partnered social enterprise Fashion-Enter for the Fashtech Innovation Centre in London, with the goal of bringing on-demand fashion and mass customisation back to the UK.
