New horizons for Cordura’s re/cor RN66

Invista brand Cordura’s re/cor RN66 collection, a line of recycled nylon 66 fabrics made from 100% pre-consumer material collected in-house, has been added to materials library and consultancy Material ConneXion’s ‘Material Insights’ platform.

The fabric was most recently introduced to the footwear market via two new styles produced in partnership with Taiwan-based supplier Tiong Liong. These, alongside eight versions designed for packs, outerwear and reinforcements with South Korean manufacturer Dong Jin, were all inducted.

Dong Jin’s offer includes 30-plus weave and colour combinations of re/cor RN66. Backpack makers Black Ember and Mystery Ranch, plus streetwear label Supreme, have all been early adopters, according to the producer’s senior sales manager, Richard Kim. Re/cor RN66 won awards at both ISPO Textrends and Performance Days’ Functional Fabric Fair earlier this year.

Select fabrics will now be displayed via the 'Material Insights' digital database, as well as in physical Material ConneXion library locations in Bangkok, Daegu, Milan, Tokyo, Skövde and New York City. Vice-president of research at Material ConneXion, Dr Gayatri Keskar, said the addition will mean the company’s clients will “no longer need to choose between sustainability and performance”.

The footwear-appropriate styles developed by Tiong Long come in both non-stretch and four-way stretch versions. The two selected for inclusion by Material ConneXion were CFINT001 100% RN66 (75 warp x 60 weft), plus CFLNT001 85% RN66 and 15% spandex (95 warp x 79 weft). Project manager at the supplier, Flora Tang, described the technology as able to deliver “the ultimate combination of sustainability and strength”.

Speaking on behalf of Cordura, the brand’s business development director, Cindy McNaull, commented that the fabrics’ addition to 'Material Insights' would complement its own ‘Fabric Finder’ digital resource perfectly.
